Our clinic remains open for urgent eye concerns and we are pleased to announce that we are also offering remote “virtual visits” for established patients with urgent eye concerns. Under normal circumstances, virtual visits are not recommended as the proper diagnosis and treatment of most eye conditions requires an “eye to eye” office visit utilizing specialized equipment. However, these are definitely not normal circumstances and the governing medical/insurance powers are temporarily allowing virtual visits. As per the CDC recommendations, we are not performing any routine visits (general eye health and vision checkups), in office or virtual, except in situations of glasses breakage or exhausted contact lens supply without backup.

What are examples of eye concerns that CAN be addressed during a virtual visit?

  • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye, Red Eye)
  • Mild eye pain or discomfort.
  • Dry Eye
  • Contact lens irritation
  • Stys and other concerns involving the eyelids and tissues around the eyes

What are examples of eye problems that CANNOT be addressed during a virtual visit and will need to be seen in our clinic?

  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Flashes and/or floaters in vision
  • Moderate to Severe Eye Pain
  • Possible foreign body in the eye
  • Scratched eye or other trauma to the eye
  • Any retina, cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration or other concern which involves examination of the interior of the eye

How do I schedule a virtual visit?
Call our office at 952-562-8116 or text 612-578-5516 and we will set up a virtual appointment.  At this time, scheduling virtual appointments cannot be done on our website.

How does a virtual visit work?
You will need a camera equipped phone or computer. At the time of your virtual appointment, we will send you a link via text and email. Simply click on the link to start the visit. We will be using a HIPAA compliant telemedicine video program which is completely free to the patient, no sign up required, and no app to install.

Does Insurance/Medicare cover a virtual visit? This visit will be submitted to your medical insurance and coverage will depend on your individual plan. Since you will not actually be seen in the clinic, we will be submitting at a lower rate. For those without medical insurance, we will make this a very affordable visit and charges will be dependent on complexity of the problem. If, during the virtual visit, we determine that you need to see in the clinic, you or your insurance will not be charged for the virtual visit, but fees will apply for the visit in the clinic.

Do vision plans such as Eyemed or Vision Service Plan (VSP) cover a virtual visit?
No, these plans only cover routine eye examinations.

Are virtual visits available to anyone?
At this time, the rules for teleheath visits state that we can only offer virtual visits to established patient. New patients must be seen in clinic.

Should you require a visit in our office, please be reassured that we are keeping to the highest standard of clinic sanitation to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. We will also be limiting our clinic occupancy to our staff and patients only. Drivers and family member will be asked to stay in your vehicles.
