Dislike Pupil Dilation?? We Are Now Offering New Retinal Imaging to Help You Avoid It!
Announcing the Eidon Retinal Imaging System to reduce the need for dilated pupils.
Very few people actually like pupil dilation – probably safe to say that most hate it! However, pupil dilation has always been important as it gives Dr. Sarah and Dr. Steve a wide view of the eye’s interior structures. The wider the view, the easier it is to diagnose cataracts, retinal tear and detachment, macular degeneration, and other vision threatening problems.
Enter the new Eidon retinal imaging system! which for many patients can produce images comparable to that of a dilated pupil examination – without dilation.
For many years, we routinely and at no charge performed digital retinal imaging which produced high quality images but only allowed for viewing a limited portion of the central retina. To thoroughly inspect the peripheral retina, pupil dilation was still often needed with this older imaging equipment.
Will Eidon imaging eliminate the need for pupil dilation in all patients? Some patients, particularly “less young” patients (usually have smaller pupils) and those at higher risk such as diabetics, high near-sightedness or with a history of previous retinal or macular disorders will still probably need dilation. However, for most younger low risk patients, this is an excellent alternative to pupil dilation and its nasty aftereffects which last for several hours.
As we are sure many patients will have questions about this new and exciting option, we have put together a Q & A which will hopefully be helpful.
Please feel free to call the clinic if you have more specific questions. Looking forward to imaging your beautiful eyes with our latest and advanced technology.
